Thanks to the latest technology, capturing unforgettable moments have now become extremely easy. Apart from digital cameras, cellular phones now come along with built-in cameras that make it a lot easier to take pictures and preserve these precious moments. But what about those pictures that you have taken way before digital cameras became a commodity?
Many people can get really frustrated and disappointed with numerous pictures taken with still cameras because of the poor quality of the shot. Even if you have managed to find the negatives and have them reprinted, if the pictures were poorly taken to begin with, having it reproduced will be useless. But that does not mean to say that these could not be salvaged. Using simple elements of Adobe Photoshop, you would be able to improve the quality of the pictures and keep the memories alive.
Here are some nifty ways to tweak your photos through Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 tutorials…
Cropping
You look fabulous in your high school prom picture, but you’d rather forget that guy standing right next to you. By using the crop tool, you can be able to keep a copy of your high school prom picture sans your ex-sweetheart. After scanning the picture and opening the file in your Adobe Photoshop, drag the cursor while holding down the left button on your mouse to select the area that you want to keep. Then click on Image and select Crop. You will be left with the selected area of the picture that you have highlighted.
Fixing the Angles
If your little one tried to take a picture and it came out slightly tilted, you can realign it so that it comes out straight. Simply select the measuring tool located in your menu toolbar on the left side of your screen. Click on one horizon of the picture that you would like to realign and then dragging it the cursor to the other end. This would fix up any minor misalignments. If it still looks a bit off, click on the canvas option and rotate it on the canvas until you are satisfied with it. The software will automatically expand the canvas to fill in the empty spots.
Color Touch Ups
If the lighting caused the picture you took to come up a tad bit too orange, you can also remedy this by adjusting the colors on the picture. Go to Image then select Adjustments and then Color Balance. It would open up a menu that would allow you to fix up the colors of the picture. Just drag each cursor to the right or to the left. Since Adobe comes with a preview feature, it would allow you to see the changes as you drag the cursors to help you make the picture come as close as how you remember it.
Sharpen
The most common of all pictures taken by film cameras is that sometimes they tend to look a little bit blurred. To bring out the details of the shot, select the sharpen feature in the Filter option on the menu bar. The program will automatically sharpen the details of the picture a little at a time. Continue the entire process until you are satisfied with the details of the entire picture.

Adobe Photoshop includes some very exciting tools that even Elements beginners can use to good effect. The top 3 tools that you need to get to grips with first are the Smudge, Blur, and Sharpen tools that are perfect for editing minor blemishes from a digital image.
The smudge tool function helps to add special background and foreground effects to an image, such as blurring the foreground into the background or by blurring the background into the foreground. This allows you to edit images that may be out of focus or if there is an irritating shadow that you need to get rid of. The blur tool can be located by right-clicking on the smudge icon, and allows you to slightly blur a photo should the image appear too sharp, just as the Sharpen Tool, located in the same way, can be used to make a photo sharper should it be blurred.
The burn tool allows you to edit an image to a darker tone, and will also help to reveal highlights and detail in an over exposed photo. The Dodge Tool is located by right-clicking the burn tool icon, but this tool will perform the exact opposite, by making a photo lighter, bringing out details in shadowed or under exposed parts of the image.
Another great editing tool that is also located by right-clicking the burn tool icon is the sponge tool, which allows you to saturate or de-saturate a photo. Saturation is making the image brighter and more colourful whereas de-saturation will dampen the color to make it a bit more dull. You are also able to switch foreground and background colors, for extra special effects that will make you digital photos look unique. This tool allows you to interchange the background color of an image to be the foreground color and vice versa.
With just the click of a button the Adobe Photoshop Elements software will change the colors around for you. You can play around with the colors to create some really awesome images, such as setting your background to red. Then you can write over part of the image in the same color, by simply clicking on the icon and Adobe Elements will change the colors around, allowing you to write in red on the image.
These are just a few of the basic tricks a tips that will help you get to grips with the basic tools of Adobe Elements software, but If you need to Master Adobe Photoshop Elements in no time at all, so you can quickly and easily edit your digital photos, and impress your family and friends… then this is definitely for you…
